Denton Freedom House - Program Details

General

  • Upon admission, the resident will submit all clothing and possessions for inspection, and will submit himself for a search of his person. A search can be conducted at any time as deemed necessary.
  • A tribe leader will be the resident’s immediate supervisor, and the resident is to channel all requests and problems through him.
  • Drugs, narcotics, alcohol, tobacco and all related paraphernalia are forbidden in the home and/or the resident’s possession at any time while in the program.
  • No sleeping during the days. Resident should be in unity with the program of the home. Resident may rest during free time.
  • Only the appointed staff will be allowed in the parsonage area.
  • Only the appointed staff will be allowed in the kitchen. Residents are not allowed in the refrigerator or pantry unless instructed. Drinks will be provided or resident may inquire of the staff.
  • No resident is to leave the home without a staff member at any time for any reason, and then only at the staff’s discretion (nor may a resident walk outside the house during the night. Resident will not be allowed to leave the dorm room after lights out without permission of the staff. Resident may read in bed with a bed-light after lights out)
  • There is to be no food or drink in the dormitory at any time, except for water. Water may be taken to bed at night.
  • At no time shall the resident be called away from the program schedule.
  • All street talk, cursing, backbiting/cutting others down, etc., is not allowed in the home.
  • Disrespectfulness toward a staff member will not be tolerated.
  • Bunk inspections will be performed every morning.
  • Classroom work inspections will be performed at the end of every day.
  • Chore inspections will be performed every day.
  • Resident will be chaperoned at all times for a minimum of thirty days and maybe longer based on his progress.
  • Visits, mail, and phone privileges are privileges and may be taken away as a result of disciplinary action.
  • Any violation of the home policies may result in disciplinary action, and/or expulsion from the program.
  • Discipline is to be done during free time only, unless otherwise instructed.
  • If you leave prior to the completion of the program, there will be a thirty-day, to sixty-day, to one-year re-entry restriction.
  • Resident must pick up items within three days of leaving the home prematurely or as a result of being expelled. Property left over three days becomes the property of the Denton Freedom House.

Visitation

  • Resident will not be allowed visitors except parole or probation officers during the first thirty days. After thirty days visits will be at the discretion of the home director, and must be approved at least three days in advance. Resident must submit a Visit Request Form for approval. Visits will last no more than two hours and will be limited to spouse or family only. Visitors must be on the approved visitors’ list. Resident will not be allowed to have old friends visit. All visits must take place on the premises. On the rare exception that a resident is allowed to leave the premises (only when it is physically impossible for the visit to take place here) with the visitor he must be chaperoned bys a staff member.

Phone

  • Resident will not be allowed telephone calls except parole or probation officers during the first thirty days. After thirty days phone calls will be at the discretion of the home director. Phone calls will be limited to spouse or family, with no more than three, ten-minute calls per week. Calls will be made to those on the approved call list only and will be dialed by the staff member. Resident must always secure permission from the home director before using the phone. The staff reserves the right to listen to, limit, or screen any phone call. Residents may not use the phone away from the facility for any reason. Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action or expulsion from the program. All phone calls must be made in the vicinity of a staff member at an approved location. Calls may only be made during the resident’s free time only.

Mail

  • Resident will be allowed to communicate with spouse and family via mail. The staff will screen all incoming and outgoing mail.

Money

  • Resident will not need money during their stay at the Denton Freedom House. All food and hygienic materials will be provided. Denton Freedom House, however, will not be able to provide medical coverage or pay for prescriptions or doctor’s visits. Resident may be able to take advantage of programs offered by other social service agencies and ministries and government programs.

Classroom

  • Tardiness to any activity may result in disciplinary action.
  • Resident is not to be getting up during class activities.
  • There is no eating or drinking allowed during class time.
  • You must arrive to class time fully prepared with the proper materials.
  • Proper conduct is expected during class time. No laying on couches, napping, standing or walking around, etc. will be permitted.

Work

  • Resident must work a minimum of 180 hours to graduate from the program.
  • Proper attire must be worn at all times.
  • Resident may not take shirt off on the job.
  • Resident may not enter a customer’s home without the instruction of a staff member. Resident will almost never be allowed to use the restroom in a customer’s home.
  • Neither tips nor payment may be accepted by residents. Customer should be directed to the crew leader or staff member in such instances.
  • Resident must maintain a proper attitude and proper conduct on the job. Absolutely no profanity or street talk. Resident must respect the crew leader and be submissive to his instruction.
  • Resident must not ask the homeowner for donations, or food or drink, or solicit the homeowner in any way.

Dress Code

  • Resident must be fully dressed (including shoes) before leaving dormitory in morning. Resident may not leave dormitory in pajamas.
  • Resident must wear a shirt at all times.
  • Shirts with profanity or obscenity or with inappropriate advertisements are not allowed in the home. This includes, but is not limited to clothing that has secular bands and skulls.
  • No tank tops or cut-off t-shirts are permitted.
  • Resident’s pants must be worn at the waistline. Resident must wear a belt if necessary.
  • No flip flops unless medical condition and sandals are not allowed to be worn outside of the rooms.
  • No hats inside.
  • Resident must always dress modestly. The staff reserves the right to interpret and enforce the modesty policy.

Notebooks

  • It is the responsibility of the resident to bring his notebook to the tribe leader at the end of every day. Failure to do so will result in an incompletion being issued.
  • Failure to complete all of the required work for that day will result in an incompletion being issued.
  • Every incompletion results in a day being added to the resident’s projected graduation date and the resident automatically forfeits his free time until the work is made up.
  • All work must be made up during resident’s free time.

Unauthorized Areas

  • No one is allowed in the Laundry room/ supply closet without expressed permission from the staff.
  • There is to be no one in the Media office or the office at the exterior of the Main building at any time without permission of the staff.
  • There is no one to be in the shed at anytime unless they have permission from the staff.
  • The Kitchen is off limits to all who are not designated as “Kitchen Staff” and therefore will not be allowed access at anytime.
  • The Parsonage Area is not to be entered without direct permission from the Home Director.

Romance Policy

  • We are primarily set up for single men, although we have had married men in unique situations. It is our desire to see families restored. However, the student’s time at the Denton Freedom House is set aside for spiritual growth. There are many things that can create distractions. Therefore, romantic relationships of any form (except in some cases of men that are lawfully and spiritually married) are not permitted either by phone or letter during the first phase at the Denton Freedom House. Any romantic involvement during phase two or in internship will be held to open account.
